Took Macbook back 1 week after purchase, my Dell 1525 outperformed hands down and at 1/2 price. Dell dock is available so you Mac users can feel at home as this brings and Mac access interface to PC. It comes down to basics, the Mac ran so hot it almost scorched my legs, DVD drive is problematic based on poor construction. Also want to upgrade the ram, well you'll have to pay someone to do this for you as you cannot do this on your own. And what if your precious Mac breaks down, the service departments are so backed up that it's about 2 months to get anyone to look your mac. So believe the hype Maccers, that's what they've programmed you to believe, so keep buying into these overpriced underperforming hot boxes, you could always use it as a hot plate to keep your latte hot.

Cheers!

So, this one's in late but why not. I'm on a MacBook Pro. I love the PowerBook name, though, so I sometimes make it go by PowerBook G6. However a G4, it is not ;)

About The Bad: I agree except for the first point. I adore that macs go to sleep when you close them, and wake up almost instantly on opening. The white macbook does indeed not have much of a problem with smudging. This is mostly unavoidable on surfaces like the blackbook exterior. I'm happy with the standard key repeat settings (at least, I never change them), but more flexibility in that slider would be a good thing.

The Ugly: all of this is because you were used to things working differently. Happens to all of us when we switch platforms. I know of things that I'd like OSX to do, a whole bunch more that I'd like windows to do, and a couple that I'd like linux (GTK/GNOME, I don't even touch Qt/KDE) to do. Switching means adjusting. At some point you get used to it. Oh except chatzilla. You need to fix that so /quit actually quits the app like the user would expect. Closing the window is a weird short cut that should never have been taken.

Anyway.

The Perfect OS isn't out there yet. To me, OSX is the closest we have available right now. Easy enough for my mother to use without breaking it (she has a white macbook), yet powerful enough for me. If I find something better that runs on macs (I really, really dislike generic hardware with all its flashing lights and buttons and knobs and what-have-you) and I'll be on it in no time flat.
